Bone developments

Digital bone bank

This long-term collaboration with LUMC (Orthopaedics, Radiology) in developing and setting up a Digital Bone Bank has been completed. During the process, large pieces of bone were scanned at LUMC.

Comparing 3-D CT images of available grafts helps practitioners select the most suitable graft for replacing large bone defects.

The project is currently being brought to the attention of other university medical centres to make the method more widely available.

Disinfecting rib cartilage

A new method of decontaminating donated rib cartilage is being developed in collaboration with Micro-Serve. The ultimate aim is to enable ETB-BISLIFE to process soft tissue (cartilage, tendon tissue, fascia lata) into tissues suitable for transplantation.
